KENNEWICK, WA A 48-year-old woman was left with life-threatening injuries after a crash on busy North Steptoe Street in Kennewick. The 21-year-old woman driving a 2019 Honda Civic was heading north on Steptoe and started to turn into Santiago Sunset Estates, a manufactured home park, a Kennewick police news release said.
As the car turned, a 2014 Dodge Journey, heading south, hit the Civic. Police said the SUV driver tried to avoid the car, but they collided near the entrance to the manufactured home park. Both people in the Honda were taken to an area hospital. A 48-year-old woman riding in the car had life-threatening injuries, and the driver had minor injuries. The SUV driver was not hurt.
Police said alcohol and drugs weren’t factors in the collision, and believe that Civic didn’t yield to the oncoming traffic as it was making the turn, Sgt. Matt Newton said. The crash snarled traffic on the major arterial roadway for a couple hours.
